Solar Lighting

We offer a wide variety of solar outdoor lighting that is designed to give you many years of enjoyment with minimal care. We recommend wiping down solar lighting products with a damp cloth to remove dirt and dust from the entire unit, especially the solar panels. This will remove any dirt, debris and/or any mineral deposits from settling on the surface. This will also allow more sunlight to be absorbed into the solar panel for brighter and longer light output. Replace rechargeable batteries, as needed. Make sure to use the correct type of rechargeable battery. Do not use alkaline batteries, as this can cause acid to leak, damage the unit and void the warranty.

Plastic Solar Post Caps

Priced for the budget-conscious homeowner, plastic solar lights require very little care and can last many years without needing replacement. Over time, exposure to the elements may cause discoloration, hazy appearance or other signs of age or deterioration. Wipe clean with a damp cloth or soapy water as needed.

Aurora Post Caps & Solar Post Caps

Deck lights and post caps by Aurora Deck Lighting are made of solid cast aluminum and come with a weatherproof, durable powder coat finish. Wipe clean with a damp cloth as needed to remove dirt and dust from the unit and solar panel.

For Deckorator Post Caps and Solar Post Caps:

Metal Post Caps

Our copper, stainless steel, and brass post caps have a thin, clear, marine lacquer applied to them. This finish will protect them before and during installation. However, once they are exposed to natural elements they will begin to break down to the natural metal underneath.

Copper Finish

Copper naturally breaks down and over time will develop a patina. Copper will change from its natural salmon color to browns, greys, bluish grey, and finally to a beautiful grayish-green patina.

  • To keep its color and shine, apply a car wax immediately to the cap. Reapply car wax every 3 to 6 months. There are also metal protective cleaners and sealants that can be applied to copper surfaces to prolong the shiny appearance for many years. Make sure it is safe for copper.
  • Tarnished finish can be removed using mineral spirits and grade 0000 steel wool. Then buff with grade 0000 for a satin finish. For a glossy look, apply car wax. You may also spray with a clear lacquer, and then apply car wax, once dry.
  • To encourage a natural patina, remove the lacquer with mineral spirits and grade 0000 steel wool.

Stainless Steel and Brass

Stainless steel has a hard oxide coating making it resistant to stains. Apply a mixture of club soda and vinegar periodically to keep the oxide coating. Apply a clear lacquer coating periodically to protect the finish.

Colored Metal Post Caps

Our colored post caps are powder coated with a baked-on finish that is extremely durable and requires very little maintenance. They come in white, green, real patina, pewter, and black. Rinse off with water or occasionally wipe clean with a damp cloth.

Wood Post Caps

Applying a high-quality exterior finish to all areas of wood products will help to protect the wood's natural beauty ensuring many years of enjoyment. As with all wood products, apply a protective finish before installation and reapply as needed.

Post Caps with Wood Base

For post caps that have a wood base, apply a high-quality exterior finish to all wood areas before installation. Reapplying the finish annually will preserve the wood's natural beauty and protect it from the elements.

Glass Post Caps

Exposure to the elements may cause the copper-wrapped solder on your glass post cap to oxidize and lose its original color. Applying car wax before placing the post cap outdoors will help to prevent initial oxidation. Reapply car wax every 3 to 6 months as needed.
